Pelvic pain occurs; when the uterus expands and presses pressure on the pelvis causing pain. At times, it almost feels as if someone is pushing something heavy from inside on your pelvis. At this point of time, you may actually feel your uterus expanding. Other than this, the second major cause of pelvic pain during pregnancy is the stretching of ligaments. The ligaments help in supporting the uterus, at the time of pregnancy these bands tend to compress and cause sharp and almost stabbing pains in your pelvis. This pain in the latter stages can stretch towards your thighs.

During pregnancy, the pelvic joints relax, which increases the size and flexibility of the space available for the birth canal. These were the major factors that are responsible, apart from these the general ones include history of pelvic trauma, uneven movement of pelvic joints, strenuous working schedules, lower back pain, hyper mobility etc. can also enhance unbearable pelvic pains.

 

Although these are the common ailments during the time of pregnancy, they are unpleasant. Hence, it is essential to take some general treatments that can lower the pain. Because it the period when a woman should feel happy and satisfied.

There are various things that can help in relieving the pain to some extent. Keeping your body warm can really help. Use heat packs or warm bath, it will help to relax the pelvic area causing lessened amount of pain. Some women get relief by going for a pelvic massage. The massage techniques help to ease the tightened muscles and eliminate pain to a greater extent. Doctors, generally suggest changing the position while sleeping, this will get your baby in to a different spot thereby putting less pressure on the pelvic areas.

As far as stretched ligaments are concerned, knee lifts are the most effective solution. But it’s a bit difficult; these lifts should be done carefully to avoid the risk of falling. Apart from these, pelvic rocking or hip squeeze exercises can also help. If the pain is unbearable and frequent consult a doctor or a gynecologist on it.
